If you are taking any kind of health supplement or considering doing it, you have probably noticed that there is so much choice out there. Whether it’s in a physical store or on the internet, you just don’t know where to start looking.

It may not be obvious, but there are 2 different types of supplements: the natural ones and the synthetic ones.

But the thing is, even though they have the same names, once in the body, they don’t act the same way.

Synthetic supplements contain nutrients that have been created in labs, individually. But supplements derived from plants naturally contain a combination of different nutrients that the body needs to be able to use them properly. And this is exactly why it is believed that synthetic supplements are probably not as effective as those created from a natural source.

As synthetic vitamins and minerals are not natural, our body doesn’t always recognize them. So they are not absorbed properly and end up as waste. And then obviously, as you don’t get the amount that is indicated on the bottle, you don’t get the results that you expected either.


The Difference in Price

There is usually a difference of price between natural and synthetic supplements. Synthetic supplements are often manufactured in very high quantities and with synthetic ingredients that don’t cost much. However, the process of extracting nutrients from whole foods is a bit more complicated and therefore normally costs more. Something that is more expensive to produce will therefore be put for sale on a higher price.

But don’t worry, I can assure you,  it’s totally possible to get a good-quality natural, whole food supplement without breaking the bank!

You just need to know what to look for.


How To Know If  A Supplement Is Natural Or Synthetic?

The best way to find out if a supplement comes from natural sources or if it has been created artificially is by reading the label carefully.

These are the some of the terms that you should be looking for:

  • 100% Plant/Animal based
  • Certified Organic
  • from Whole Food
  • No artificial Ingredients


Products that contain only one nutrient are generally synthetic.

If the product makes claims that seem too good to be true, you should be careful.

Products available to buy at a very cheap price can also be suspicious.

Good quality natural supplements often come from organically grown wholefoods or plants and contain more than one nutrient.

You can also look for certifications and accreditations and see if studies have been done to support their claims.
